Amer F. Obeid is Founding Partner of the Obeid & Medawar Law Firm (O&M) established in Beirut in year 2007.
Born in 1979, Amer has been a member of the Beirut Bar Association since 2003, and has established a distinctive track record of milestones in his endeavor as an acclaimed lawyer and entrepreneur in a very short period of time. He first studied Lebanese and French Law at Universté Saint-Joseph, graduating with a BA in Law in 2002.
He obtained a Masters’ degree in Political Science in 2003 from the same renowned academic institution. He then pursued an LLM-equivalent DEA in Banking and Financial Law in 2004 from Universté Saint-Joseph in affiliation with Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas France. He then pursued yet another post graduate degree for a DESS in Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in year 2006. In 2007 he earned a Qualification in Islamic Finance from ESA.
He obtained a Diploma in Art Management from ESA Business School – (Graduated top of his class – submitted a thesis on the regulatory framework of the art market).In December 2021, he obtained a Diploma in AMP – Advanced Management Program – INSEAD Business school- Fontainebleau, France.
In 2023, he became a mediator accredited from CEDR.
Prior to founding O&M he debuted his career with the Assha & El Khoury Law Firm in Lebanon, a renowned institution founded by the late Mitri Assha in 1945. In 2006, he was a lecturer at Université Saint-Joseph in the subject of Consumer Protection Law, for a period of 5 years between 2006 and 2011. In Lebanon, he worked extensively on several law drafts, such as the laws and decrees regulating the Lebanese financial markets, the law related to the consumer protection act, the law project for the supply of electricity by municipalities, and the law project organizing the real estate brokerage profession. He has counseled for the Ministry of Finance, as well as the Ministry of Economy and Trade on several occasions and has been since 2003 the legal counsel for the Lebanese Parliament and for the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) since 2007. He represents a number of leading banks, financial institutions and insurance companies in Lebanon as well as a large number of companies and high net worth individuals both locally and regionally.
In Africa and other emerging markets, he represents several groups of investors active in acquiring large-scale concessions across African countries in the fields of secure printing, border control and biometrics, mining, telecom and banking, ports, airports and aircrafts handling, as well as power generation, trade inspection, casinos and lottery. He was engaged closely with several African authorities and institutions and was instrumental in consulting, negotiating and drafting every aspect of the collaboration modules on behalf of his esteemed Clients. He also has particular expertise in the resolution of disputes before all Lebanese Courts of various jurisdictions and levels and through local institutional and ad-hoc and international arbitration panels for Forums constituted under the rules of the ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, ICSID, OHADA.
He has in depth expertise in Arbitration and enforcement of awards against private and public entities.
Amer is trilingual, fluent in Arabic, English and French.
